Abstract
Climate change is one of the most dangerous phenomena facing humanity and the international community, for which countries compete to conclude international agreements and find effective solutions to confront it and mitigate its effects on the terrestrial environment in general and the marine environment in particular. Our research in the first section, which is divided into two research questions, is the research on the concept of climate change and its types and on the impact of climate change on the marine environment of countries, while the second section deals with the position of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea of 1982 on climate change, considering that this agreement constitutes a codification of international custom and is one of the most important agreements that address the delimitation of borders and maritime areas of countries and ways to protect them. In addition, we devoted the third research quotation of the second section to an application of the impact of climate change on countries, including "Iraq as a model."
Introduction
Climate change has a direct impact on daily life. Rising temperatures and recurring floods due to melting ice caps, along with continuous wildfires in recent decades, particularly in the United States, Australia, Lebanon, and other countries, and
droughts in most parts of the world. These severe effects of climate change cause
destruction and damage to marine environments and the living organisms they contain, and they also pose a threat to coastal areas and marine life. Additionally, there is a danger to ecosystems and biodiversity. This phenomenon will intensify, and its threat to human life in general and marine environments, in particular, will increase, especially if its causes are not addressed and necessary measures are not taken by the international community through the establishment of international agreements on this issue or adherence to agreements related to limiting these changes.
The research statement
The phenomenon of climate change is one of the most important environmental problems of the present time, resulting from factors such as rising gases from volcanoes or greenhouse gases, as well as human factors resulting from increased human activities and increased consumption of non-renewable energy sources, which threatens global security .Therefore, climate change has become an issue that cannot be ignored, as this change has become as dangerous as human wars in terms of danger, as the issue of climate changes has become a threat to peace and international security. In view of the seriousness of the
effects of climate change on the international community and humanity in
general, it has become necessary for it to establish foundations and controls
to eliminate or mitigate the severity of the effects resulting from this
phenomenon in order to achieve the desired goal, which is to return
temperatures to their normal rate before the era of the industrial revolution
and return them to 1.5 degrees after it was 2 degrees Celsius.[1]
The research objectives
The importance of the study appears through research on the phenomenon of climate change and the exacerbation of its effects resulting from its causes such as global warming, melting ice, rising sea levels and other causes, as well as research on the concept of the phenomenon and the differentiation between it and the phenomena suspected of it and the resulting impact and ways to combat it and delve into the efforts of the international community to confront its effects from agreements and conferences held to find solutions and controls that reduce its exacerbation and identify the role of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea in 1982 in preserving the marine environment of countries and finally identify the impact of climate change on the marine environment of Iraq, especially the Iraqi marshes.
